Madeleine Kando, MEd, Movement Therapist and a graduate of Lesley College, founded SmartstARTS in 2010. She is also the Director of The Children’s Arts Corner, the parent company of SmartstARTS, which was founded in 1986. Ms. Kando was educated in France and Holland. She is a former member of the Chameleon Dance Company. She also holds a degree in linguistics and speaks five languages fluently.
Mairim grew up in Puerto Rico and has over 10 years experience teaching Languages and Music to toddlers and preschoolers, all the way through their adolescent years. From 2002 to 2003, Mairim was employed at Waltham Public Schools at the Parent Information Center. Her role was to facilitate the immersion of newly arrived families from Latin America into Waltham’s school system.
Mairim is a founder and lead instructor of the Bilingual Child Development Center (BCDC), a venture created in the Greater Los Angeles, CA area. The BCDC became Music & Play in Spanish when she relocated with her husband and two children to Boston in 2006.
Mairim is a certified Kindermusik teacher. She has a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from the University of Puerto Rico and is also fluent in French.
